Bruises using Glynn McKay Bruise Gels

After learning to create bruises using a bruise wheel we moved on to creating them using Glynn McKay bruise gels. When using the bruise gels i found that they created a realistic new bruise but i struggled to create an old bruise using them. When creating new bruise you need to use red, purple and blue bruise gels. To create old bruises you need to use yellow, brown and green bruise gels. Below are some pictures of new bruises using the bruise gels. Below are some pictures of new and old bruises using bruise gels.

Method

New Bruise

  • Start by applying light red (not too much) to the skin and push the product around.
  • Add a small amount of blue on to the red and blend out.
  • Add a small amount of purple to the red and blue and blend out.
  • Lift of any colour by using a wet wipe

Old Bruise

  • Start by applying yellow to the skin and push the product around.
  • Add a small amount of brown to the yellow and blend out.
  • Add a small amount of green to give the bruise definition.
  • Add a small amount of blue (very small amount) and blend out
  • Lift of any colour by using a wet wipe.

Matte Skin and Red Lips

As part of learning basic make -up we had to learn how apply and achieve a matte look to the skin.  In our lesson we were given a demo by our tutor Lisa and then were sent off in pairs to practice. To achieve matte looking skin you need to cleans and tone the skin to remove any traces on make up, dirt and excess oil  After cleansing and toning you need to apply moisturiser to the skin and allow it to soak in to the skin and then apply a matte primer to the skin to help soak up and excess oil as well as to keep the make-up in place. To achieve the matte look to the skin i used MAC Studio Tech foundation and applied two to three layers on to the skin. The key to achieving a matte skin to apply a couple layers of foundation rather than applying one thick layer which can look cakey. After the foundation you need to go in with concealer and conceal any blemishes, redness or dark circles that were not covered up by the foundation. Once everything is concealed both the concealer and foundation then have to be set to achieve the matte look. To set the skin you need to use a translucent powder with a powder puff  and roll the powder on to the skin. Below are pictures of the finished look on my model Katy.

To take the matte skin one step further you could add a bold red lip like i have as well as  adding black eye liner to achieve a very 50’s retro pin up look .

Products I have used to achieve this look:

Face

  • Illamasqua Matt Primer
  • MAC Studio Tech Foundation
  • Illamasqua Loose Powder
  • MAC Powder Blush – Cubic

Lips

  • MAC Lip Pencil – Cherry
  • MAC Lipstick – Ruby Woo

Bruises using Kryolan Bruise wheel

For our first special effects lesson we were given a demo on creating new and old bruises using the Kryolan Bruise Wheel. We were then allowed to practice on each other for the rest of the lesson. When practicing  the bruises I found that the new bruise did not look as real as the old bruises, which looked more realistic. Below are some pictures of my first attempt at bruises and the method on how to recreate them.

Method

New Bruise

  • Apply light purple to the skin – use the tip of the finger and push the product in an outwards motion.
  • Next apply red (not a lot) on top of the purple and blend
  • Finally apply dark purple (not a lot) and tap on top of the red and light purple.
  • Continue to blend and re-apply until you achieve the desired effect.

Old Bruise

  • Apply light green/yellow to the skin- use the tip of the finger and push the product out in an outwards motion.
  • Next apply a small amount of dark green to the light green for definition.
  • Continue to blend and re-apply until you achieve the desired effect.

Dewy Skin

As part of learning basic make – up we had to learn how apply and achieve a dewy look to the skin. In our lesson we were given a demo by our tutor Lisa and then were sent off in pairs to practice. To achieve dewy skin you need to cleans and tone the skin to remove any traces on make up or dirt. After cleansing and toning you need to apply moisturiser to the skin and allow it to soak in to the skin, apply eye cream to the eye to gentle massage it in to help reduce and puffiness. The key to applying a sheer foundation and achieving a dewy finish is to build up the foundation so that there is an even coverage but still looks fresh and as if there is no make up on the skin. This kind of look would be used it a achieve a ‘no make up’ make up look or used to promote skin care products. Below are picture of the finished look on my model Katy.

Products I used to achieve this look:

Face:

  • Illamasqua Satin Primer
  • MAC Face & Body Foundation – N1

Skills Test

For our first task in college we were asked to come up with a make up look, which would show the tutors what skill we had and what were capable of doing. For my look I wanted to do something that was not overly complicated but still look still looked strong. Therefore I decided to go for a bold lip with natural looking skin and a neutral eyes. I took inspiration from the ‘Vampy’ lip trend that is everywhere at the moment, using a dark purple/plum colour as the main focus of my look. As the lips were the main focus of my look I decide to use a mixture on browns on the  eyes so that they did not over power the look. Below  are some pictures of my final look on my model Katy :

Product I used to achieve this look:

Face:

  • Illamasqua Matt Primer
  • MAC Face & Body – N1
  • Illamasqua Loose Powder
  • Illamasqua Powder Blush – Disobey ( Used to contour face)
  • MAC Powder Blush – Cubic

Eyes:

  • Urban Decay Eye Shadow Primer Potion
  • MAC Eye Eye Shadow – Orb (applied all over lid)
  • MAC Eye Eye Shadow – Era (applied in crease and buffed)
  • MAC Eye Eye Shadow – Carbon (applied to lash line on top and bottom and buffed)
  • Collection 2000 Longer Lash Mascara – 1 Black
